Moviegoers in Andhra Pradesh will pay extra to watch Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 during its opening week after the state government approved a temporary increase in cinema ticket prices. The revised rates will allow single-screen theatres to charge an additional ₹50 per ticket and multiplexes to collect ₹75 more than their regular prices.
The concession will remain in effect from October 15 to October 21, covering the film’s first seven days in theatres. The approval also permits five shows per day during this period, giving exhibitors additional flexibility to accommodate demand for the highly anticipated sequel.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 15, with Rajinikanth returning as Muthuvel Pandian.
How Much Will Jailer 2 Tickets Cost in Andhra Pradesh?
Under the approved arrangement, the additional amount will depend on the type of cinema where audiences choose to watch the film.
Single-screen theatres can increase their standard ticket prices by up to ₹50, while multiplexes are permitted to add ₹75. These amounts are increases over the applicable regular rates, rather than fixed prices for admission.
The final cost of a ticket will therefore vary according to the theatre and its existing ticket rate. Moviegoers planning to attend during the opening week should check the applicable price when booking.
The temporary increase applies only within the specified seven-day window. Once the permission expires, the usual ticket-price rules will apply unless further approval is granted.
Why Has the State Approved the Increase?
Andhra Pradesh regulates cinema ticket prices through a system that sets maximum rates for different categories of theatres. Exhibitors cannot automatically charge more than the permitted limits and must obtain government approval for an increase.
The request for higher prices for Jailer 2 was submitted through Sithara Entertainments, which is handling the film’s distribution in Andhra Pradesh. The government subsequently allowed the temporary revision for the film’s initial theatrical run.
Such permissions can affect the opening-week economics of major releases, particularly films featuring established stars and arriving amid strong audience interest. For exhibitors, the higher permitted rates offer a chance to generate additional revenue during the initial period of a release.
For audiences, however, the decision means that watching the film in Andhra Pradesh could cost more than attending a screening at the usual rates.
Rajinikanth Returns as Muthuvel Pandian
Jailer 2 reunites Rajinikanth with director Nelson Dilipkumar following the success of their earlier collaboration, Jailer. The sequel continues the association between the actor and the character of Muthuvel Pandian, who became central to the original film’s story.
The film features an ensemble cast that includes Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu and other performers. Music for the project has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
The sequel is among the major Tamil film releases scheduled for the festive period, with its October 15 release placing it in a competitive theatrical window.
Jailer 2 and Ranabaali Face Different Ticket Pricing
The revised rates also create a difference between Jailer 2 and another major release, Ranabaali, starring Vijay Deverakonda. The latter film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 16, a day after Rajinikanth’s sequel.
Unlike Jailer 2, Ranabaali is expected to be screened at regular ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh, following the denial of reports that its makers had sought a similar increase.
The two films will consequently enter the festive box-office period under different pricing arrangements in the state.
For Jailer 2, the temporary approval gives theatres a limited opportunity to charge higher admission rates during its first week. Audience response, show occupancy and the film’s reception will help determine how successfully it converts pre-release interest into sustained theatrical business.
