India continued its strong campaign at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on October 20, with athletes delivering impressive performances across athletics, shooting, para table tennis, archery and powerlifting. After a successful opening day, the Indian contingent added more medals on Day 2, strengthening its position in the competition.

The standout performances included Deepthi Jeevanji’s gold medal in the women’s 400-metre T20 event, Manish Narwal’s silver medal in shooting and Bhavina Patel’s bronze medal in para table tennis. Indian athletes also achieved important results in javelin throw and other events, reflecting the team’s depth across multiple disciplines.

Deepthi Jeevanji Wins Gold With Games Record

Deepthi Jeevanji delivered one of India's most notable performances by winning gold in the women’s 400m T20 event. She completed the race in 56.36 seconds, setting a new Asian Para Games record.

Her victory added another gold medal to India's growing collection and highlighted her consistency at the international level. The performance was particularly significant for India's para-athletics contingent, which had already produced several medal-winning results on the opening day.

India’s Day 1 gold medallists included shooter Mona Agarwal, long jumper Nishad Kumar, middle-distance runner Soumya Kumar and javelin thrower Rinku Hooda.

Manish Narwal Secures Shooting Silver

Indian para shooter Manish Narwal won silver in the men's 10m air pistol SH1 event. He scored 233.7 points in the final to finish second in the competition.

South Korea's Jo Jeongdu claimed gold with 241.3 points, setting an Asian Para Games record, while China's Yang Chao secured bronze with 213.6 points. India's other finalist, Rudransh Khandelwal, finished seventh.

Narwal's silver medal carried additional significance because it secured him a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. He became the third Indian para shooter to secure such a place at the Games, following Mona Agarwal and Avani Lekhara.

The result continued India's strong performance in shooting, a discipline that has contributed important medals to the country's campaign.

Bhavina Patel Wins Bronze in Para Table Tennis

India's experienced para table tennis player Bhavina Patel secured bronze in the women's singles Class 4-5 event. She reached the semifinals before losing to China's Zhang Bian in straight games, with scores of 7-11, 5-11 and 7-11.

Reaching the last four guaranteed Patel a place on the podium. Her bronze added to the medal she won at the Tokyo Paralympics and further strengthened India's presence in para table tennis.

Other Indian paddlers also contributed to the country's medal tally, with additional bronze medals reported in the competition.

More Medals in Javelin Throw and Powerlifting

India continued to perform well in para-athletics. Pradeep Kumar won silver in the men's javelin throw F53/F54 event, while Ayush Verma claimed bronze. Praveen Sharma also secured bronze in the men's shot put F11 competition.

In para powerlifting, Ashok won silver after recording a best lift of 192kg. His achievement marked India's first medal in para powerlifting at the 2026 Games.

These results demonstrated India's growing competitiveness across a range of para-sports, extending beyond the country's traditional medal-winning events.

Sheetal Devi Sets Records in Para Archery

Indian para archer Sheetal Devi continued to attract attention after an outstanding performance in the women's compound ranking round. She scored 704 out of 720 points, equalling the existing world record and establishing a new Asian record.

She later partnered with Toman Kumar in the mixed-team ranking round, where the pair recorded a combined score of 1,402 points to set a world record in the category.

Sheetal also advanced through the individual elimination rounds, keeping India's hopes alive for further medals in archery.
