Jio Platforms has raised approximately ₹8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors ahead of its initial public offering (IPO), scheduled to open for public subscription on October 21, 2026. The strong institutional response marks an important milestone for the company's planned stock market debut, which is expected to be India's largest IPO by issue size.
The company allotted approximately 7.24 crore equity shares to anchor investors at ₹1,119 per share, the upper end of its IPO price band. The allocation attracted domestic mutual funds, international asset managers, insurance companies, pension funds and sovereign wealth funds.
The anchor investment comes ahead of the three-day public subscription period, which is scheduled to close on October 23.
LIC, Global Investment Firms Among Major Investors
The Life Insurance Corporation of India received the largest individual allocation in the anchor book, valued at approximately ₹500 crore. New World Fund was allotted shares worth around ₹486 crore, while the Government of Singapore received an allocation of approximately ₹341 crore.
Other prominent participants included SBI Focused Fund and BNP Paribas Financial Markets. Several major international investment firms and financial institutions also participated, including BlackRock, Fidelity Investments, Capital Group, JPMorgan Asset Management, Franklin Templeton and T. Rowe Price.
Sovereign investment institutions, including Singapore's GIC, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and the Qatar Investment Authority, were also among the investors.
Domestic mutual funds received shares worth approximately ₹2,785 crore, accounting for around 34.34% of the anchor allocation. The participation of Indian mutual funds and insurance companies demonstrated interest from both domestic and international institutional investors.
Strong Demand Ahead of the Public Offering
Institutional demand for the anchor allocation reportedly exceeded ₹2.5 lakh crore, more than 30 times the amount available for allocation. The response highlighted substantial interest in the offering before individual investors could begin applying.
Anchor investors are large institutional investors who receive shares before an IPO opens to the general public. Their participation can provide an indication of institutional interest, although it does not guarantee that the shares will perform well after listing.
The public offering is scheduled to open on October 21 and close on October 23, 2026. The price band has been fixed at ₹1,065 to ₹1,119 per share.
The issue is expected to raise approximately ₹30,188 crore through a fresh issue of equity shares, making it one of the most significant fundraising events in India's capital markets.
How the IPO Proceeds Will Be Used
Jio Platforms plans to use a substantial portion of the net proceeds to repay part of the debt held by its telecom subsidiary, Reliance Jio Infocomm. The remaining funds are intended for general corporate purposes.
The issue includes a reservation of approximately ₹2,500 crore for eligible shareholders of Reliance Industries and ₹500 crore for employees. Eligible employees will receive a discount of ₹54 per share against the final offer price.
The proposed listing will give public-market investors a direct opportunity to invest in Jio Platforms rather than gaining exposure to the business only through its parent company.
Jio's Expanding Digital Business
Jio Platforms operates across telecommunications and digital services, including mobile connectivity, broadband, digital entertainment, cloud services and enterprise technology.
The business has expanded rapidly since Reliance entered India's telecom market in 2016. By June 2026, its subscriber base had reached approximately 533.3 million, according to reported company figures.
The company is also exploring opportunities in artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. Its large customer base and digital infrastructure are central to its long-term growth strategy.
However, investors will need to assess the company's valuation, financial performance, competition and future capital requirements before making investment decisions.
What Investors Should Know
The strong anchor book response reflects significant institutional demand, but it should not be treated as a guarantee of listing gains or future returns. Share prices can rise or fall depending on market conditions, valuation and the company's financial outlook.
Investors should review the official offer documents, understand the risks and consider their financial circumstances before making any investment decision.
Conclusion
Jio Platforms has secured approximately ₹8,110 crore from 212 anchor investors ahead of its October 21 IPO opening. Participation from major domestic and international institutions has placed the offering in the spotlight ahead of its public subscription period.
The planned fundraising will support debt repayment and general corporate purposes, while the proposed listing will provide public investors with direct exposure to one of India's largest digital services businesses.
