Nita Ambani has congratulated the Indian contingent following its campaign at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, praising the athletes for their performances and highlighting the contribution of Indian women to the country's medal tally.
India finished fourth in the overall standings after collecting 85 medals, comprising 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The campaign concluded on October 4, with India recording its second-highest medal haul in Asian Games history.
Nita Ambani Praises Indian Women Athletes
Ambani, founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation, particularly highlighted the performances of India's women athletes. She said their achievements had provided moments of pride for the country and helped inspire younger girls to pursue sport.
The Indian women's contingent produced several notable results during the Games. Athletes including Lovlina Borgohain, Kumkum Mohod, Neeru Dhanda and golfer Pranavi Urs featured among the prominent performers, while India's women's teams also secured gold medals in hockey, cricket and kabaddi.
The strong showing by women athletes was one of the notable features of India's campaign in Aichi-Nagoya, adding to the country's success across individual and team events.
Reliance Foundation Athletes Also Earn Recognition
Ambani also praised athletes supported by the Reliance Foundation. According to the figures associated with the campaign, 48 athletes supported by the foundation represented India, with the organisation contributing to 29 of the country's 85 medals.
She thanked all members of the Indian contingent for representing the country and acknowledged the effort required to compete at the continental level.
The foundation has supported athletes and sporting programmes in India, with its involvement extending across different disciplines. The Asian Games results have once again placed attention on the role of institutional support in helping young athletes prepare for major international competitions.
India Finishes Fourth With 85 Medals
India's final tally included 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, placing the country behind China, Japan and South Korea in the overall standings. China topped the table with 341 medals, followed by hosts Japan with 269 and South Korea with 150.
The Indian campaign included gold-medal successes in both men's and women's cricket, kabaddi and hockey. The men's hockey team retained its Asian Games title, while the women's hockey side also won gold. India also produced strong results in athletics, archery, shooting, boxing and wrestling.
Although the 2026 tally was below India's previous record haul, the 85 medals still represented the country's second-best performance at the Asian Games. The focus will now shift toward using these results as part of preparations for upcoming international competitions, including the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The Aichi-Nagoya Games have therefore ended with India maintaining a place among Asia's leading sporting nations, while the performances of its athletes, particularly its women competitors, have drawn recognition from across the country.
