The much-awaited trailer of Jailer 2 has arrived, bringing Rajinikanth back as the formidable Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The sequel to the 2023 action entertainer continues the story of the retired jailer, but this time his peaceful life is threatened when unresolved conflicts from his past resurface.
The trailer was released on October 5, ahead of the film's worldwide theatrical release on October 15. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the movie once again places Rajinikanth at the centre of an action-heavy story filled with crime, humour and larger-than-life moments.
Tiger Muthuvel Pandian Is Pulled Back Into Trouble
The new story finds Tiger living a considerably quieter life in a remote village, where he works as a driver. His attempt to stay away from his old world, however, does not last for long.
People connected to his past begin appearing again, forcing him to confront threats he seemingly left behind. The trailer indicates that the conflict is connected to the same network of criminals and smugglers encountered in the first film.
Instead of actively searching for trouble, Tiger appears to be drawn back into the dangerous world because of circumstances surrounding him.
SJ Suryah Appears as a Major Threat
SJ Suryah gets a prominent presence in the trailer and appears to be positioned on the opposing side of Tiger. However, the film keeps his character's exact motivations largely concealed.
That mystery leaves several questions about his connection to Tiger and the events that unfold in the sequel.
The trailer also features Vidya Balan, who makes her Tamil film debut with Jailer 2. Her character is another major mystery, with the preview offering only limited clues about how she fits into Tiger's story.
Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff Return
The sequel also brings back the multi-star appeal associated with the Jailer franchise. Mohanlal and Shiva Rajkumar can be seen in brief portions of the trailer, while Jackie Shroff also makes an appearance.
Vijay Sethupathi, whose involvement with the movie has previously been confirmed, does not appear in the released trailer.
The combination of Rajinikanth with prominent actors from different Indian film industries was one of the major attractions of the first Jailer, and the sequel appears to continue that approach.
Action and Comedy Remain Central
The trailer combines high-energy action with the humour that became an important part of the first film's appeal. Rajinikanth's Tiger remains at the heart of the proceedings, while the preview hints at confrontations involving several opposing forces.
Director Nelson Dilipkumar appears to have retained the tonal mix of action and comedy while expanding the scale of the story.
With Rajinikanth returning to one of his recent popular characters and the sequel introducing new faces and unresolved connections, Jailer 2 is positioned as one of the major Tamil releases of the year.
The film is scheduled to reach cinemas worldwide on October 15, 2026.
