Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Appears in Unboxing Videos, Revealing Screen Crease and New Features

Apple’s first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, has appeared in new unboxing and hands-on videos ahead of its official release, offering a closer look at its design, display and camera features. The videos showcase the device in two colour options while highlighting a key question surrounding foldable phones: how effectively can the screen crease be concealed, and how will the display hold up over time?

The smartphone is scheduled to begin shipping to customers on October 23, 2026. Early demonstrations have already generated interest in its unusual design and the engineering choices behind its folding display.

Two Colour Options and Minimalist Packaging

The unboxing videos feature the iPhone Duo in Star White and Night Sky. The packaging follows a minimalist approach, with the phone supplied in an unfolded position and a USB-C charging cable included in the box.

The demonstrations also offer a closer look at the device’s exterior finish and dual rear-camera system. One of the most noticeable design details is the contrast between the inner and outer displays.

The main folding screen has a matte appearance, while the smaller external display looks considerably glossier. This difference is particularly noticeable when the two screens are shown side by side.

The device’s unfolded configuration provides a larger viewing area for activities such as browsing, watching videos and multitasking, while the external screen allows users to access the phone when it is closed.

Screen Crease Remains a Major Talking Point

The folding display is one of the most closely watched aspects of the iPhone Duo. In the latest demonstrations, the crease running across the hinge area appears relatively subtle when viewed directly from the front.

However, the fold becomes easier to notice from certain angles, particularly when light reflects across the screen. The display surface above the hinge also appears to have some flexibility when pressed.

This has raised questions about how the folding area might change after months of regular use. Foldable smartphones repeatedly bend their displays, making the hinge and surrounding screen materials important factors in long-term durability.

The early videos provide a useful look at the device, but they cannot establish how the display will perform after extended use. Longer-term testing will be necessary to determine whether the crease becomes more prominent or affects everyday usability.

Matte Display Creates a Different Viewing Experience

The inner display’s matte finish is another notable feature. Compared with a glossy screen, a matte surface can reduce distracting reflections under certain lighting conditions.

In the demonstrations, this finish also appears to make the crease less noticeable when the phone is viewed straight on. However, the difference between the two display surfaces is visually apparent, and users may have different preferences regarding screen texture and clarity.

The softer area around the hinge is worth monitoring because it could influence how the display feels when users swipe across the centre of the screen. The available footage does not establish whether this characteristic will cause problems during normal use.

Camera Features and Interactive Animations

The videos also demonstrate the rear dual-camera system and an animation feature displayed on the secondary screen when the phone is unfolded.

One example features a Snoopy animation intended to attract a young child’s attention towards the camera during photography. Such visual cues could be useful when taking pictures of children who may otherwise look away from the lens.

These demonstrations provide an early impression of how Apple has adapted the two-screen design for practical photography and everyday interaction.

Shipping Begins as Demand Builds

The iPhone Duo is expected to reach its first customers on October 23. However, delivery estimates for new orders have reportedly moved into late January 2027, suggesting that initial demand may be exceeding the available supply.

The actual scale of demand will become clearer as deliveries begin and more customers receive their devices.

For now, the unboxing videos offer an early look at Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone category. The relatively discreet crease, contrasting display finishes and dual-screen features stand out, but long-term durability and everyday performance remain important questions that only extended real-world use can answer.
